Eager to harmonize with nature, the Domaine des Rothis has undertaken several actions in this direction in recent years.
The Domaine des Rothis has part of its land as ecological compensation. This means that some of the land is cultivated in a special way in order to encourage the proliferation of wild fauna and flora. In the jargon, these areas are called biodiversity promotion areas.
Another action taken by the Domaine des Rothis is to stop using insecticides. Instead, the employees fight the pests by biological means. For example, they use the method of sexual confusion. This is a simple method that consists of placing small sticks filled with pheromones in the vines. The particular pheromone used is the one that allows the male to find the female to mate. As the atmosphere in the vineyards is saturated, the males cannot reach the females. Therefore, no eggs are laid on the grapes.
Finally, since 2020, the Domaine has taken on a new mission: to reintroduce the Cormier (Sorbicus Domestica), a tree species threatened with extinction in Switzerland. Two of these magnificent trees were planted near one of their vines in Dardagny.
