Johannisberg is a very popular grape variety in Chamoson. It is one of François Schmaltzried's favourites, with his sparkling wine "Câlines".
The terroir of Chamoson is particularly well suited to the cultivation of Sylvaner, a grape variety also known as Johannisberg or "Johannis". The commune of Chamoson has 76 hectares of Sylvaner, which is not to the displeasure of François Schmaltzried, who is a great fan of this grape variety. In 2014, the Cave de la Petite Vertu's Johannisberg was voted the best Johannisberg in Valais and included in the Coffret des vins du Valais. In 2015, François and Patrick decided to make it a Grand Cru from a specific parcel of the estate.
Another speciality that has a very special place in François Schmaltzried's heart is his sparkling wine, "Câlines". Not only is it made from scratch in the cellar, but it is also dedicated to his goddaughter Inès, whose first name appears entirely in the name of the wine.
