Two years ago, the estate decided to diversify its crops by planting seven hectares of fruit trees which include old and endangered fruit varieties such as peaches, as well as apples and pears to make cider.
Domaine de Chantegrive wishes to produce cider and market these old fruit varieties so that they can become popular again. Indeed, these fruit varieties all have a different ripening period, which would increase the diversity of fruit in all seasons and enable Swiss people to avoid consuming exotic fruit from the other side of the world.
The Domaine has also decided to diversify its ecosystem by building bird boxes, rehabilitating watercourses and adding stone walls to provide shelter for lizards.
