Each wine has a story of its own to tell. Besides the wines of the area, which enjoy a rather simple and noble aspect, the winery also produces wines where the background of the wine should be in the foreground.
Each of these wines carries a particular saying through which a story is told, hence the name "Eigenbrötlerwein" (wines of its own origin).
The grapes of these wines grow in optimal conditions dependent on the needs of the variety of wine desired. Merlot, for example, grows much better in Ticino than in Graubünden. With its clay-rich soil, Schaffhausen is better suited to Riesling-Silvaner – stored and aged in barrels for a lengthy period of time. The grapes are produced according to their own characteristics, after which 100% Schifferli wine is produced.
The company's journey began with the Riesling-Silvaner (then called "Andrin carved in wine"). As per the old adage: what is carved in stone is preserved forever. "Astrid under the scorching sun" reflects Astrid Schifferli's passion for warmth and sunshine, recalling the characteristics of Merlot. Merlot is also very thermophilic. "When it's hot, Astrid is incredibly happy," says Andrin Schifferli.
