Weingut Salomon Undhof

Lower Austria, Austria

The Salomon Undhof winery is one of Austria's time-honoured wine-growing elite. In 1792, the Salomon family took over the farm from "Kloster Und" in Stein an der Donau. In the first half of the 20th century, Fritz Salomon was one of the pioneers of a contemporary Austrian white wine culture. With the emergence of international wine journalism, the Salomon Undhof winery was recognised early on by world-renowned authors as one of the leading wineries in the country. When Erich Salomon took over the winery in 1971 and his brother Dr. Bertold Salomon in 2002, the success was steadily expanded.

The vineyard sites cultivated by the Salomon Undhof estate, some of which slope steeply down to the Danube, are among the very best vineyards in Austria and produce mineral Rieslings and Grüner Veltliners with a high degree of finesse. Near-natural cultivation has been standard on the farm for years. Since 2021, the winery in Stein an der Donau has been managed by the young generation: Fanny Marie and Bert Michael Salomon, the children of Dr. Bertold Salomon and Mag. Gertrud Salomon, have enjoyed a solid professional education. Bert Michael Salomon is the oenologist in charge of winemaking, while sister Fanny Marie is responsible for sales.

Dr. Bertold Salomon and his wife Mag. Gertrud Salomon, after transferring the winery management in Stein an der Donau to their children, are now increasingly taking care of the overseas operation founded in the first half of the 1990s. The Australian holdings operate under the name "Salomon Estate". In addition, vineyards in New Zealand are also cultivated as a joint venture with a local partner. The Australian estate produces full-bodied Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot wines. In New Zealand, the focus lies on Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc.
